We met Skyler Fernandes, Managing Director of Simon Venture Group, in the Fall of 2012, when the SIC had just opened its doors.
Then a partner at Centripetal Capital, he was the active VC with the closest offices to the SIC. It didn’t take long for Skyler to become an important part of our community. He met with startups, taught classes on presentation skills based on his now-famous “Best Startup Pitch Deck” and hosted the Tech and Startup Brown Bag with me. (Back when we both still had the time!)
In early 2014, Skyler let us know that he had been asked by Simon Properties Group, the largest retail real estate company in the world, to help them invest in the future of retail.
We knew it would be a success based on Skyler’s intellect, work ethic and passion for all things tech and startup. And were we ever right! Skyler now has a national profile for his investments, work ethic (he sees more than 100 startup pitches/month, invested in 19) and has been profiled in the Wall Street Journal, Forbes and many other publications. CB Insights lists Simon Venture group as one of the top five Corporate VC’s in the retail sector.
Skyler’s/Simon’s investment thesis is focused on three related ecosystems: Data analytics, localized e-commerce, and Recommerce. Want to learn more? You could follow Skyler on Twitter, or go see him at one of his many speaking engagements around the country. Or you could come to the Stamford Innovation Center on Wednesday, October 21. Skyler’s topic: The Future of Commerce.
