In mid June, the SIC team made our annual pilgrimage to the center of the NY startup world: Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
We were there for the great Northside Festival, an art, music, film, and innovation conference attended by thousands. It was even more amazing than last year! We met so many interesting people, attended all the networking events (thanks to Dell & Intel!), and gave away mad swag, including our fancy new Stamford Innovation Center journals.
We stayed close to the festival in an awesome AirBnB rental, which was decorated with French anatomy posters, plants, and books– a perfect example of the quirky Brooklyn aesthetic.
The first night, we tasted a delightful range of brews from TØRST, the place where most of Evil Twin Brewery’s delicious experiments are tested on the public. Thursday found us at The Bean, home of the quintessential New York Bagel (all cream cheese flavors are recommended) and excellent coffee, with lunch at Sweet Chick, featuring chicken & waffles with fried jalapenos and molasses glaze, and the best pulled pork sandwich north of the Mason-Dixon Line.
Friday morning brunch was consumed at none other than that bastion of Instagram-worthy plates: Five Leaves, a restaurant whose gorgeous decor is surpassed only by its exquisite food.
Nights were spent wandering around, goggle-eyed amidst record shops, boutiques, breweries, and artisan gastro-bars. The spirit of creativity and entrepreneurship is alive and well in Williamsburg. Will I be back to Northside? You bet!
