Stamford Startup Weekend is scheduled for Friday, April 10 through Sunday, April 12, with the event featuring entrepreneurs pitching business plans, forming ad hoc teams and presenting to judges in a bid for cash and services, including two months of free space at the Stamford Innovation Center.
Last year’s winner was Pop.Up Shoppees, created by Bruno Chima of Creating Economic Opportunities in Storrs and Walid Namane and Cyril Senu, both now with Sikorsky Aircraft. The trio’s team won with a plan to recycle used shipping containers into pop-up store fronts, using the slogan “think inside the box.” A team of Quinnipiac University students was runner up with Deja You, conceiving an app to help people draw content from varying social media platforms to create a single-site repository for favorite posts and memories.
Organized by UP Stamford Startup Community, this year’s event starts April 10 at 6 p.m. at the Stamford Innovation Center at 175 Atlantic Street and runs through the weekend.
Participant tickets range between $95 and $135 (including early bird pricing that runs through March 6), with spectator tickets for Friday or Sunday costing $30. Information is online at http://swstamford.org.
